W48 - Work Phase Check
Welcoming the final month of 2020! Q4 is already two-thirds over, so it’s time for a periodic check on my work.
My Q4 has mostly been about firefighting. My main energy went into hiring and handling urgent requests, deviating from the original Q4 plan. The initial plan focused on B2B payments with small experiments on wallet cross-integration, but circumstances forced us to move quickly and take on D0 and the wallet initiatives. On the positive side, this accelerated our entry into other merchant services. On the downside, we did many things but struggled to tell a coherent story—lacking overall cohesion and systematic thinking.
Reviewing the Q4 plan, we’ve only partially implemented the cashier homepage TTI optimization. In December we should make progress on project inheritability and train a new team member. Technically, two priorities stand out: implementing the cashier experience optimizations tailored for Kuailu, and building quality practices from a unified perspective that spans the cashier and card-binding projects.
Q4 has been unusual; this situation isn’t the norm. But even in a normal Q4, some questions still need clear answers. Looking outward from B2B payments, can payment services truly cross with the wallet? If cross-integration is limited, how do we find a cohesive plan while balancing multiple directions? How should we assess our position from the merchant’s overall perspective? As merchant teams gradually recover capacity, these questions will be high-priority items next.
