W48 - Work Phase Check

Welcoming the last month of 2020! Q4 is already two-thirds over, so it’s time for a periodic check on my work.

Q4 has largely been about firefighting. Most of my effort went into hiring and responding to urgent requests, deviating from the original Q4 plan. The initial plan focused on B2B payments with small experiments crossing over into the wallet, but circumstances forced us to move faster and take on D0 and the wallet initiatives. On the positive side, this pushed me to engage more quickly with other merchant businesses. The downside is that, while I did many things, it’s been hard to tell a coherent story—there’s a lack of overall cohesion and systematization.

Reviewing the Q4 plan, only the checkout homepage TTI optimization work has been partially implemented. In December I expect progress on project inheritability and to train a new team member. Right now there are two technical priorities: implementing the checkout experience optimizations for Kuaiduo, and building quality practices from a holistic perspective that coordinates the checkout and card-linking projects.

Q4 is unusual, and this situation isn’t the norm. But even in a normal quarter, some questions still need clear answers. Looking outward from B2B payments, can payments truly be crossed with the wallet? If cross-integration is limited, how do we find a cohesive plan while balancing multiple directions? How should we assess our position from the merchant’s overall perspective? As merchant staffing gradually recovers, these questions will be high-priority items for the next phase.
